Author Biographies

Mario H. Ramirez

Mario H. Ramirez is the Associate Dean and Chief Librarian of The City College of New York Libraries (CUNY). Previously, he was Head of Special Collections and Archives at the California State University, Los Angeles, and he has also held appointments as a project archivist at the Bancroft Library (UC Berkeley) and the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Hunter College, CUNY). From 2018 to 2019, he was a Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) postdoctoral fellow in data curation for Latin American and Caribbean studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. He received a PhD in information studies and a certificate in experimental critical theory from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2017.

Rebecka Taves Sheffield

Rebecka Taves Sheffield is an archivist, scholar, and educator whose work bridges archival leadership, cultural memory, and community-based knowledge practices. She is Senior Manager of Collections Development and Management at the Archives of Ontario and has held leadership positions at the University of Waterloo and The ArQuives: Canada’s LGBTQ+ Archives. Rebecka is the author of Documenting Rebellions: A Study of Four Lesbian and Gay Archives in Queer Times (Litwin Books, 2020), winner of the American Library Association’s Gleason Book Award. She has taught archival studies at the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, and Simmons University and currently serves as General Editor of Archivaria.
